Demonstrator RegionsWithin the BIOSIRE project tourism regions in Europe will realize demonstrators applications. All pilot implementations will demonstrate the use of alternative fuels and clean technologies in tourism transport.
Two further regions (Veneto Region and Croatia) will evaluate, define and plan for local alternative fuel and clean technology programmes within the BIOSIRE project.

- Island of Mallorca (Spain)

In Mallorca the local partners are working on increasing the amount of used cooking oils collected from hotels, restaurants and households. The used cooking oil is a main ingredient for the locally produced biodiesel. Further promotion actions are directed at increasing the use of biodiesel and electric vehicles in tourist related fleets.

- La Rochelle Urban Community (France)

La Rochelle is expanding the number of restaurants participating in the used cooking oil collection scheme. The cooking oils are collected and used as biofuel, without additives, in vehicles of the Urban Community. Two electric ships are implemented and promotion actions are planned for the take up of biofuels and electric propulsion in more fleets, including water transport.

FGM-AMOR is supporting Austrian tourist areas in preparing, implementing and evaluating the introduction of electric vehicles and biofuels.

The Regional Energy Agency of Crete is activating the local market for the collection used cooking oils. A pilot project with high blends of biodiesel is in preparation. The third main action is to promote the take up of electric vehicles in tourist related companies

Promotion of the collection of used cooking oils in the Dubrovnik region. Using biodiesel in tourist boats and other vehicles for tourist purposes on the island of Losinj. Introduction of electric propelled ferry boats and SUVs using biodiesel in the national park of Mijet.
